Shiny Toy Gun’s New “III” – Due For Another Grammy Nom?

Shiny Toy Guns’ new album III (Five Seven Music) was released on October 23rd, 2012 and has been gaining buzz in the music world.  Carah Faye (vocals), Chad Petree (vocals, guitar), Jeremy Dawson (synth, bass), and Mikey Martin (drums) each shine on this record.  Carah is back with the band after leaving in 2008 and missing the album “Season of Poison” which came out that year.  Her presence adds that extra something to Chad’s vocals  (which I absolutely love).Their sound is Electronic meets Dance meets Rock meets Synth-Pop, often with an 80s New Wave sound.

III can be energetic and intense, especially in “Speaking Japanese” with its Techno / Pop sound. The album is ultimately very well-balanced though, with its slower songs like “Take Me Back to Where I Was” and “Wait For Me”.  I like the straight-up 80’s-sounding ones the most.  My top track choices would be first, “Waiting Alone” (this is the kind of song I can listen to on repeat); second, “Carrie”; third, “e v a y” (this would be absolutely perfect on a film soundtrack); and fourth “Mercy”.Their debut album We Are Pilots (2006) was nominated for a Grammy, and I could see that happening again with III.

Here is the official video for “Fading Listening”.  The song makes me think of the group Boombox.
