This Weekend – Made in America — Jay Z’s First Shot At Curating A Music Festival

The Made in America festival will take place in Philly over Labor Day weekend, from Saturday September 1st to Sunday September 2nd. The city expects over 50,000 fans to attend each day.
Producer Brian Grazer and director Ron Howard will be on site filming a documentary, a little bit about the festival, but more about Jay Z himself. Howard has said that this is not another concert film, which I guess is good because while it’s a good lineup and a somewhat interesting festival (great for the city of Philadelphia, Rock meets Hip Hop, etc), it’s not exactly the best of the year when you consider Lollapalooza, ACL, Outside Lands and so on.
Howard explains that the film will be “a reflection of the fabric of what it means to be Made in America – what the festival represents, why Jay is doing it and how he relates to each artist.” Grazer adds that “The film is going to be born through Jay-Z’s perspective…how he puts the event together and creates this musical event that defies all genres… how Jay-Z has become a voice and icon for this generation.”
YouTube and Pandora will live stream the event for those who cannot attend and want to join in on the fun.
And so, here is my personal lineup. I’d recommend the following for a damn good weekend. D’Angelo, Jill Scott, Run DMC and Pearl Jam would be at the top of my priority list.
