“The Art of McCartney”

Paul McCartney and Ralph Sall first met when rejiggering Paul’s “A Love For You” from his 1971 album Ram for the 2003 film The In Laws. The collaboration led to Sall’s idea for this incredible all-star tribute album to McCartney, The Art Of McCartney. The album includes covers by Willie Nelson, BB King, Alice Cooper, Chrissie Hynde, Dr. John, and even features a cover of “Hello, Goodbye” by Paul’s son James alongside The Cure. Sall recorded many of the songs with Paul’s backing band — guitarists Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray, drummer Abe Laboriel, Jr and keybs player Paul “Wix” Wickens. This helped to maintain Paul’s distinctive sound.

I’ve never necessarily been able to name my “favorite Beatle”, but if I really had to, I’d say Paul. I know half of you are thinking “John Lennon, duh”, but it’s not that simple. Anyway, the point is, I am incredibly excited about having just preordered The Art of McCartney box set. Not only are they all McCartney songs from all stages of his catalogue, but they are sung by some of my most favorite artists.
