Raw yet flawless Americana from Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek and the Decemberists

The breakup of Nickel Creek has given us two great gifts — Sara Watkins’ solo career and the Punch Brothers (which includes Nickel Creek alums Chris Thile and Chris Eldridge).  Singer-songwriter and fiddler Sara Watkins signed with Nonesuch Records in 2008 and has since released two records: Sara Watkins (April 2009), produced by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, and Sun Midnight Sun (May 2012), which is my new favorite album. For my picks off the latter, see below. Also, Watkins is currently on tour with Jackson Browne (for more info, visit http://www.jacksonbrowne.com/tour).

“When It Pleases You” – A relatable raw mid-tempo emotional rock ballad that takes you on a journey through the risky business of a love affair.

“You and Me” – Simple and sultry.
