Le Flaneur; The XX

Flâneur: As defined in the book Elegant Wits and Grand Horizontals, it’s “the deliberately aimless pedestrian, unencumbered by any obligation or sense of urgency, who, being French and therefore frugal, wastes nothing, including his time which he spends with the leisurely discrimination of a gourmet, savoring the multiple flavors of his city.”

I can only imagine the amount of work that went into this beautifully edited video. The clarity of the shots almost makes it look like CGI.

On a separate note, I really like the song in this video, so thought I’d check out more of The XX and that I’d probably like their music… She’s got such a lovely voice, and the drums are great, but there is something essential missing here. It’s actually frustrating — they almost get there. Jon Caramnica for the New York Times describes their music as “luscious yet disinterested soul songs that masquerade as arch, spacey indie-rock.” Maybe they’ll get better with age…
