Happy 4th! 10 Songs That Evoke the American Spirit

In honor of the Fourth of July, I’ve compiled a list of songs that evoke the American spirit. Some, such as Kiss’ “Rockin’ in the U.S.A” take a  more run-of-the-mill patriotic approach, while others, such as Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” really serve as protest songs, which is quite democratic when you think about it.  Then, of course, you’ve got ones like Simon and Garfunkel’s “America”, which serve as time capsules by offering a view into a certain generation’s version of the American life.

Please feel free to chime in in the comments section below with any songs you think should be on this list, and have a great holiday!

1. Steve Miller Band – “Living in the U.S.A.” (1968)
